Dan Elliott Phelps

Dan Elliott Phelps of Wilmington, NC died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born May 19, 1929 in Wilmington, NC, the son of the late Rhobie and Ruby Leitch Phelps. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Caison Phelps. Mr. Phelps served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was a lifelong member, elder, and deacon of United Advent Christian Church. Mr. Phelps was proprietor of several local businesses, the last one being Phelps Lawn Service. Surviving are his son, Danny Phelps and wife Cheryl of Hopkins, SC; a daughter, Kim Blackmon of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Brandon Blackmon, Aaron Blackmon, and Chandler Phelps; two brothers, Buck Phelps and wife Clara of Supply, NC, and Bill Phelps of Supply, NC; and two sisters, Frances Cook of Supply, NC, and Linda Gantt of Leland, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at United Advent Christian Church by Rev. Sam Worley and Rev. Adrian Shepard. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Advent Christian Church, 4912 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.
