Davy passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at home. He attended Wingate College for two years and then UNCW as long as possible, earning two degrees - one in Marine Biology and the second in Computer Science. He worked at Castle Branch and quickly became one of their biggest promoters. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his friends there and participating in employee recreational activities like surfing and paddle boarding. He leaves his wife Charlotte, cousins Leslie Crockett Wyckoff Spicer and Abigail Caryl Spicer, and many, many wonderful friends. Davy loved the outdoors and somehow even convinced his wife, an avowed non-camper, to go on a camping trip with the youth to Hanging Rock. His attempt to convert her into a snow skier was somewhat less successful. He worked with church youth groups throughout his life and loved encouraging others to fulfill their potential and walk with Christ. In June, he was recognized by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow. Davy and Charlotte recently traveled to Little Cayman where they were married last year. It was a trip he thoroughly enjoyed, sharing his underwater photos daily on Facebook. The family will receive visitors from 5-7pm, Friday, September 5, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Services will be at 11am, Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Since Davy always wore shorts and flip-flops to other people's services, it seems appropriate for that to be the dress for his. Memorials may be made to Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church or the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (reefresearch.org).
