David was born on September 3, 1948 in Charleston, WV son of the late, Lawrence and Louise Hern of WV. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Theodore and Ruth Workman of WV.
David worked for the VA hospital in Beckley, WV before relocating to the coast of NC. He then worked as a Postman serving the downtown Wilmington before retiring the USPO in 2005. He served in the USAF in Taegu, South Korea. David loved to hunt, fish and spend time working in his garden and yard. David was a huge fan of Golf. He enjoyed his time with his golfing buddies on the greens of Beau Rivage.
David was passionate about his faith, politics and everything in between. He was a huge supporter of his family and was so proud of everyone and everything that they did, no matter how big or small. David was a WV Mountaineer at heart, but he also had a love of all things related to the Carolina Panthers football.
David is survived by his wife, Won YI; daughter, Tammy Hern Caplan and husband Andy Caplan; grandson, Gentry Caplan; brother, Lawrence “Dink” Hern; niece, Sherry Hern Davis and husband Gary
David and their family: Jonathon, Rey Rey, Brandon, and Noah; niece, Marcy Hern; nephew, Larry Hern and wife Shari Hern and their family: Hanna, Kyler, Bailey Grace and Jackson; grand “fur” children: Piper, Travis and Roscoe.
A visitation will be held from12:30pm to 1:00pm, Friday January 28, 2022 at Silver Lake Baptist Church, 4715 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.
A funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday January 28, 2022 at Silver Lake Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Gasque officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Oleander Memorial Garden, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
A reception will follow at Peace Baptist Church, 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405.
