
Delphia Mae McDonald Carlyle was born on January 16, 1934, in Brunswick County, North Carolina, to Joe and Lydia McDonald. The youngest of three children, she entered her eternal reward on December 4, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by her family at her home in Mounds, Oklahoma.
Delphia (Dot) married the love of her life, Winiford Floyd “Bill” Carlyle, Sr., on July 10, 1955. They shared 59½ years of devoted marriage. In her early adult life, she enjoyed a long career with J.C. Penney, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Dot was a faithful member of Spring View PFWB Church in Wilmington, NC, where she developed many cherished, lifelong friendships.
She found great joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dot was known for her beautiful gardens, her love of flowers, and her talent for sewing. But above all, she was known for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. She loved people, and she loved Jesus.
Delphia was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Bill, and her son Billy.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Carlyle McLaurin, and husband Tommy of Tulsa, OK; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Carlyle, of Aiden, NC; four grandchildren—April Dies (Nathan), Angelica Jessica Guillemette (Adam), Courtney Steeves (Brendan), and Michael Carlyle; six great-grandchildren—Hannah, Emma Cate, Aubrey, Oliver, Eli, and Beckham; as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC, on Wednesday, December 10, from 6–8 PM. The funeral service will take place at Spring View PFWB Church on Thursday, December 11, at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Tommy McLaurin officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
