He was born on November 27, 1944 in Old Hickory, TN to Wynford and Sylvia Gregory. His early life was spent in Old Hickory where he became interested in metal working and welding through his high schools’ craft and trade program. After graduation he became a welder with Steamfitters/Plumbers Local 572. He remained a member of his union even after taking a position with the El DuPont Corporation Engineering Department. His career spanned 37 years with jobs in 26 states and 7 foreign countries.
His smile, knowledge and willingness to help will be missed by his loved ones, friends and neighbors. Left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend of 50 years, Jane Gregory; his daughter, Melissa Manley (husband Russell) of August, GA; his son, Michael Gregory (wife Nichole) of Spotsylvania, VA; his grandchildren, Joshua, Chase and Lauren Manley, Blake Gregory and Joshua Tomaso; his sisters, Martha Craig and Doris Spearrin (Old Hickory, TN) and many nieces and nephews.
At Dennis’ request there will be no formal service but a celebration of life party will be held at a later date, when family and close friends can gather together. The family requests that those who wish to honor Dennis’ memory make a donation to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28412, whose angels made his final hours battling his cancer peaceful, restful and as pleasant as possible for his wife and children.
