Born on April 12, 1941, Dermot lived a life defined by dedication, creativity, humor, and a deep love for his family. He proudly served as one of New York’s Finest as a New York City Transit Police officer before pursuing a second career as a professional magician and clown. Dermot had a gift for entertaining people of all ages and brought joy, laughter, and wonder to countless children and adults throughout the years.
Dermot raised his family in Nanuet, New York, where he worked hard to provide a wonderful life for those he loved most. Later, he and his beloved wife, Carol, moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where they spent more than 20 years together. During the final year of his life, Dermot lived in Fruita, Colorado near his daughter and her family.
One of the greatest examples of his devotion was the loving care he provided to Carol during her final years. His steadfast commitment, compassion, and loyalty reflected the kind of man he was.
Dermot was deeply dedicated to his family and will be remembered for his laugh, storytelling, resilience, generosity, and ability to make others smile wherever he went.
He is survived by his loving children, Cindy Amann and Craig Cadogan; sons-in-law, Brian Amann and Danny Richani; grandchildren Kyle, Maddy, and Olivia; great-grandson Bodhi; sister Maureen; brothers Tom, Kevin, and Don; and sister-in-law Linda, who was like a sister to him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol.
The family encourages loved ones to honor Dermot by sharing a story, performing an act of kindness, or making someone smile — something Dermot did so naturally throughout his life.
