Diane Norris Morgan of Wilmington, North Carolina passed peacefully on July 29, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
Diane was born in Onslow County, North Carolina, on June 13, 1965, to James and Loyce Maready Norris. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear cousin, Roger Norris.
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Meredith Morgan; her sister, Jenny Uzzell, and Jenny’s husband, Milton; nephews Jimmy and David Uzzell; companion Chris Elrod; many close friends; her beloved dogs, Pippa and Shadow; and her lifelong friend of more than 30 years, Donna Pope.
Diane graduated from Swansboro High School in 1983. She completed an Associate degree from Cape Fear Community College, followed by a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in Liberal Studies from UNC Wilmington. She later completed a Master of Paralegal Studies from George Washington University.
She dedicated her professional life to public service in New Hanover County. Diane began her career with the Register of Deeds in 1992, transitioned to the Land Records division of the tax office, and later joined the County Attorney’s office. There, she led efforts to modernize and automate the county’s contract system. While working full-time, Diane completed her advanced degrees and taught Paralegal Studies at George Washington University. In recognition of her contributions as an educator, she received the Faculty Excellence Award from George Washington University in 2019. Diane was widely respected for her dedication, professionalism, and pursuit of excellence.
Above all, Diane was a devoted mother and a steadfast friend. Known for her intelligence, sharp wit, and gracious spirit, she treated everyone she met with kindness. Even in the midst of illness, she met each day with courage, humor and remarkable strength.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation or the Glioblastoma Research Organization in Diane’s memory. The family plans to place a tribute plaque at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Memorial Garden to honor her life, legacy, and love of nature.
A celebration of Diane's life will be held on August 9th at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington at 3pm. All who knew and loved Diane are welcome to attend.
