Dick always had time for a good story and to help anyone who was in need. He loved those closest to him, fine southern food, and fishing (in that order). His highest calling was always to his family and he was defined by his role of Father, Husband, Brother, Son, Grandfather, and Uncle more than any of his numerous job titles. Dick, somehow, was the strongest person in the world while also being the most kind and gentle soul ever. He leaves an indelible mark on all of those that knew him. He impacted so many in so many different ways and he will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Daphyne Robinson Gilbert; six children, Kathleen Gilbert of Pittsburg, PA, David Gilbert of Wilmington, Mike Rivenbark of Wilmington, Kimberly Kleindienst of Hendersonville, Angela Baird of Wilmington, and Adam Gilbert of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Olivia Kendall, Wesley Kendall, Courtney Rivenbark, Breanna Rivenbark, Andrew Lofton, Chloe Baird, Adriana Gilbert, and Haley Baird; and his sister, Wilda LaRoque of Roseburg, OR.
A memorial service, officiated by Skip Corbett, will be held 2PM Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Andrews Valley Chapel with visitation starting at 1PM until the service hour.
