Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sonjia Bohannon Lewis, whom he loved dearly.
A dedicated businessman, Donald took great pride in his work and the life he built through years of dedication and perseverance. He was also a proud United States Army Vietnam Veteran and carried with him the strength, values, and experiences that came from serving his country.
Donald was a Christian and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Wilmington. His faith and his desire to serve others were important parts of his life. He was known for his generous and loving heart and for always being willing to help those around him.
Donald never stopped learning. He loved discovering something new and had a lifetime of experiences and stories to share. Those who knew him could always count on a story, a lesson, or a memory from another chapter of his life. His generosity, wisdom, humor, and genuine love for others made an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Sonjia, Donald is survived by his children, Bryan Lewis and Tonya White and her husband, Kyle White; his sister, Karla Bridgers of Wilmington; and his grandchildren, AJ Lewis of Sweetwater, Tennessee, Rachel Bowen of Ayden, Breanna Beasley and her husband, Jacob, of Wilmington, and Rylee Carroll and her husband, Connor, of Benson.
He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren, Bentley Bowen, Jace Bowen, Kingston Rothy, Roman Beasley, and London Beasley, who brought him great joy and will carry his memory with them throughout their lives.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Awanda Lewis.
Donald leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, service, and a lifetime of stories and memories. His greatest legacy, however, will be the family and friends he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched through his kindness and willingness to serve others.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Service in honor Don will be held, followed by a Graveside Inurnment with Military Honors, details of which will be announced shortly.
