

Doris Palmer Bennett of Wilmington went to her heavenly home to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 29, 2010. She was born in Knoxville, TN. Her parents were the late James Ross Palmer and Margaret Smith Palmer. Doris was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, The Southern Theological Seminary, and did special studies at Vanderbilt University. She served as Minister of Education at Grace Baptist Church in Durham where she met her husband, Dr. Bill Bennett when he was a student at Duke University. Along with her husband, she served in five churches in four states ranging in size from 85 to 8000 members. Their marriage and service to Jesus spanned over 58 years together. Many compared Mrs. Doris to Ruth Graham because of her commitment to her husband and his ministry. Doris is survived by her husband, Dr. William ""Bill"" L. Bennett, Sr.; three sons, Dr. William ""Bill"" L. Bennett, Jr. of Dothan, AL, Philip Judson Bennett Alice of Greenwood, AR, and David Palmer Bennett Kathi of Wilmington. Grandchildren, Lauren Nichols, Lindsey Bennett, William Palmer Bennett, Miranda Bennett, Joanna Bennett, Christa Neal and Angela Bennett; two great grandchildren, Abbie Bennett and Jonathon Bass. Nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 to 8 pm Monday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington. Visitation will continue at 9:30 to 10:30 am Tuesday at Scotts Hill Baptist Church. Celebration of life ceremony will be begin at 10:30 am Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Rd. Wilmington, NC. Graveside services will be at held at 1:30 on Tuesday at the Manley Bennett Cemetery on Hickman Road near Calasbah in Brunswick County. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made the Mentoring Men for the Master Ministry Intl. through their website www.mentoringmen.net.
