Doris Gurganious Roberts

Doris Gurganious Roberts, 86, of Wilmington, NC, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in Winston-Salem, NC. Annie Doris Gurganious was born on August 17, 1927 in Wallace, NC, to the late Mack V. and Maybelle Gurganious. On November 21, 1957, she was married to the late James Clarence Roberts with whom she built a home and life. Doris retired from the Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1962 where she had been a telephone services operator for many years. Doris retired to raise her three children; she was a beloved and devoted mother. She was an active member of Springview Pentecostal Freewill Church. Surviving are her children: Mark Roberts and wife Colette, Robin Roberts and wife Tracey, Genia Martin and husband Todd; twelve grandchildren, her niece Shelva Byrd, and many other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel in Wilmington, NC, at 1 pm on Friday, August 23, 2013; a funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2 pm. Interment will follow the funeral service in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Our mother fought with Alzheimer's disease these last years and we ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the appropriate charity or institution to support Alzheimer's research.
