Doris Tillman Sloan

Doris Tillman Sloan, 88, of Leland, NC, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC. She was born in Mt. Olive, NC, October 8, 1921, daughter of the late William Henry Tillman and Jay Gola Summerlin Tillman. Preceding her in death was her husband, Henry Steven Sloan, a daughter, Carolyn Winstead, five brothers and six sisters. Mrs. Sloan was a member of Peace Baptist Church and a former member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church. Surviving are her children, James Sloan Carol of Morehead City, Doris Avant Hiram of Robbinsville, NC, John Sloan Diana and Wayne Sloan Laura all of Wilmington; son-in-law, Ollie Winstead; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Tillman Alice of Goldsboro, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Peace Baptist Church 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, by the Rev. Rudy Shepard. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 p.m. Sunday until the service hour. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Olive, NC. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Leland House Recreation Department, 1935 Lincoln Road, Leland, NC, 28451.
