It is with heavy hearts and lovely memories that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Dot Springs, who left us peacefully on May 20, 2026 at 94 years old. She was a woman whose kindness, love and gentle spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her. We will miss GDot deeply.
Born in Prosperity SC on October 10, 1931, Dot lived a life filled with love, grace and a strong connection to family and friends. She was the devoted wife of William (Bill) Springs for 48 years and the proud mother of 3 children; William Anthony (Tony), Karen Rene and Karla Michele.
Dot grew up in Prosperity SC and moved to Columbia after her graduation. She went to business school and then worked for Southern Scale and Refrigeration Company. After marrying Bill, Dot was happy to be home raising the children, running our home like clockwork and always having dinner on the table when dad got home from work! We moved to Wilmington in 1967 and quickly fell in love with NC. We enjoyed the beach nearly every day and later added skiing Beech Mountain in the winter. Once they were empty nesters, Mom went to work for Commercial Printing and Mailing Company. She loved that job and all the new friends that it brought her! Dad passed away in 2002, but Dot continued to live in Wilmington until 2016 when she moved to Chattanooga TN to be closer to her daughter. However, she never really wanted to leave Wilmington as she would often state, “I don’t want to live in the mountains…I’m a flat-lander!”
Dot was a woman of deep faith and her St. Matthews Lutheran Church family was very important to her. Whether she was cross-stitching kneeling cushions for the alter, working with her Circle volunteers, counting the offering plate on Mondays, playing Bridge with the “girls” or enjoying the many “OWLS” (older wiser Lutheran seniors) outings and activities….she was always willing!
She is survived by her son William Anthony Springs (Jennifer), her daughter Karen Springs Dolmovich (Bob) and her 6 grandchildren: Tyler, Gavin and Clark Springs and Matthew (Tiffany) Lake, Ben (Audrey) Dolmovich and Sarah Dolmovich. And 3 great grandchildren, Calista and Pierson Lake and Liam Dolmovich. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Wilbur and Nannie Mae Shealy, her loving husband Bill Springs and her daughter Karla Springs. She was also preceded in death by all nine of her brothers and sisters: Annette Connelly, Carroll Shealy, Ella Rae Graves, Ellis Shealy, Wilma McDonald-Orgill, Curtis Shealy, Bonnie Lawson, Peggy Ammons and S.W. Shealy Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 in Wilmington NC at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at 1:00 and the service at 2:00. Dot’s in the care of Andrews Mortuary on Market Street. The burial will be immediately following at Oleander Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Wilmington NC.
Special thanks to Dot’s dear friends that loved her like family for many years: especially Carolyn Hooker, Ann Pitts, Lisa Johnson, Susan Evans, Stuart Newell, Laurie and Edwin Link, Sandy Rowe, and Carol and Sam Hatcher.
