Dorothymae Ruth Gunning

Dee was born on August 26, 1950 in Portsmouth, Va, Daughter of the late, Dorothy Ickles Wilson and Donald Wilson. She is also preceded in death by a brother –in-law, William Barker.

She was a loving wife to Ed Gunning and an amazing mother to Donna, Matthew and Erin. As a mother and wife she was also a giver with her greatest gift of all of unconditional love to her family.

Dee was an amazing grandmother to Caitlin, Paul, Cassie, Nicole, Samantha, Jessica, and Eddie. She often would take the grandchildren on adventures and vacations.

Family was very important to Dee. She was very close to her brother Bob and his wife Louann, her sister Donna and sister -in- law, Janie. Aunt Dee was greatly loved by all her nieces and nephews.

Dee was a truly selfless woman and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She was brave in her fight with cancer and remained positive and enjoyed life. She always had a ready smile for Ed and family. The world lost one of the “good ones” today and heaven is just a little bit brighter.

Dee is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ed Gunning; Children: Donna Aiello, Matthew Gunning(Kristin), Erin Fortiscue (Robert), Brother, Bob Wilson (Louann); Sister, Donna Barker; sister-in-law, Jane Burns; grandchildren: Caitlin, Paul, Cassie, Nicole, Samantha, Jessica, and Eddie. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law

Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday December 13, 2013 at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive Wilmington, NC 28409 with Pastor Mike Hypps officiating.
