Douglas Lee Bayse, Sr.

Douglas was born in Pulaski County, VA, on March 10, 1937, to Samuel Thomas Bayse and Virginia Belle Bayse. He attended New Hanover High School and graduated in 1955.Douglas became an optician and owned Professional Optical Company, of Wilmington, NC, for 30 years.

Douglas married the love of his life, Ellen Taylor Bayse, in October of 1955. They were married for 67 years, before the Lord called her home. Douglas loved cars and was always up to date on the latest models. You could always find a copy of Motor Trend at his home. He also loved to visit Gatlinburg, TN. He and Ellen spent many wonderful times vacationing in the mountains of TN.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Virginia Bayse, and his wife, Ellen Taylor Bayse.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Lee Bayse Jr. (Traci), grandson Brian Thomas Bayse (Cat), granddaughter, Brooke Taylor Bayse, and great-grandson, RJ. He is also survived by his brothers, Norman Thomas Bayse, of High Point, NC (Rachel-deceased), David Reggie Bayse of Thomasville, NC (Helen-deceased), Donald Wesley Bayse of Hendersonville, NC (Linda), and sisters, Evelyn Bayse Walker of Wilmington NC (Bernice-deceased), and Alice Bayse Wilson of Asheboro, NC (Steve).

His family will miss him dearly, but knows he now rests in the arms of his Savior and is free of pain and suffering. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm, Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Crossway Chapel of Wilmington located at 3701 Princess Place Dr. Wilmington, NC, with a memorial service following at 2:00pm.
