

He was born on April 30, 1940 in New York, NY, the son of the late Francis M. and Ruth Laudage Thayer.
Surviving is his wife of over 50 years, Carolyn King Thayer; one son, Christopher B. Thayer and wife Kay of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Warren Thayer and Wright Thayer; a sister, Mrs. Joan Ruzicka; 3 nephews and 1 niece.
Dr. Thayer received a BS in Geology from Rutgers University, attended Ohio State and received his PhD in Geology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Thayer was a professor at Texas A & I, Kingsville, TX and Professor Emeritus at The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He was also employed with four major oil companies; Chevron Petroleum, Lafayette, LA, BP Alaska, San Francisco, CA, Amoco Petroleum, New Orleans, LA and Mobile Research & Development, New Orleans, LA and Dallas, TX. He consulted with over 30 companies including Government Department of Energy, US Geological Survey, South Carolina Department of Water Resources, Virginia Division of Mineral Resources and Air Force Weapons Laboratory, Eniwetok. He was a member of the Fellow Geological Society of America, the American Association of Petroleum, Society of Economic Paleontologist & Mineralogist, and the International Association of Sedimentologist.
Paul also enjoyed the restoration of older homes, gardening, growing Japanese maple trees, fishing and traveling to see geologic interests.
