MGYSGT Edison R. Wato Sr., USMC Retired, 80, of Zuni, New Mexico, formerly of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington, NC. He was born May 14, 1938.
Burial will be Monday morning at the Quincey Panteah Cemetery in Zuni. He will be receiving full military honors.
Ed joined the United States Marine Corps soon after high school graduation. He served his country proudly retiring after 31 years, 4 months and 25 days of service. After retirement, he served four years as a Zuni Tribal Councilman.
He is survived by his son Edison R. Wato, Jr. of Washington, DC; his daughter Sharri Wato Lanier and her husband Jamie Karol Lanier of Jacksonville, NC; grandsons Jamie Ryan Lanier and Michael Ward Lanier of Jacksonville, NC; his brother and sister-in-law Russell and Vivian Wato of Zuni, NM. He will be missed by many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly Epaloose Wato; father Ken Wato; mother Blanche Watacelu; and sister Martha Rose Wato.
