Edmund was a young boy when he rode the Grace Baptist Church bus to Sunday School. He made Jesus the Lord of his life. That relationship with God was demonstrated by the life he lived. Edmund worked hard all of his life. As a young boy, he sold newspapers in downtown Wilmington after school and advanced to managing his own paper route. For several years, he was up before dawn to deliver the papers before going to school. On the weekends, he collected payment from his customers. This job required him to work 364 days a year. Christmas was his only day off. During his high school years, he worked at the Bailey Theatre in downtown Wilmington, along with other odd jobs. In 1967, he was hired by the telephone company (Southern Bell) where he worked for 40 years tirelessly giving of himself for his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and the relationships that were built with his co-workers.
He enjoyed his church life, Southern Gospel quartet music and he even sang in a family quartet group for a short while. NASCAR racing was a pleasure for him and during his retirement years, he looked forward to the start of NASCAR season. Maggie Valley, NC was his favorite “away from home” place to be. The trips to Maggie Valley brought him much pleasure no matter the time of year.
His relationship with God, his family, and his work were all the joy of his life. His wife and daughters give witness to the character of his love, faithfulness and integrity. All who knew Edmund Flynn will also say of him that - “Edmund is a good man!”
