

Ed Casey, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, departed peacefully to his Heavenly home on March 15th, 2018 with his family by his side. Ed was born on February 12th, 1932, in Wilmington, Delaware, he was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Daniel Joseph and Julia Fobert Casey and a daughter Jill Anne Casey, as well as four siblings, Mary Jo Casey Standing, Nancy Casey Bailey, and Judy Ann Casey MacMasters, Daniel Joseph Casey, Jr. Ed’s surviving brothers-in-law are Jack Smith of Wilmington, Delaware and Greer MacMasters of Millsboro, Delaware. Ed grew up loving sports, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He attended Pierre S. Dupont High School, where he was a star athlete, lettering in football, baseball, and basketball. In 1951, Ed volunteered to join the U.S Marine Corps and served in Korea. Ed fought valiantly on the Korean Peninsula from 1952-1953 where he obtained the rank of sergeant. Ed rarely spoke of his experience in fighting the war, but his sacrifices shaped his life and the lives of his family members. Ed married his loving wife Janet and attended Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) as a veteran student, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Ed and Janet had two children, Edward Todd and Jill Anne, both born in Wilmington. Ed was employed by Hercules, Inc. after graduating college, and was transferred to Wilmington, North Carolina in 1967, where he and his family integrated into the community and remained permanently. Ed and Janet were married for 60 years and have two grandchildren, Trevor and Josephine. A strong family man, Ed stressed religion, hard work, patriotism, and moral values: values that were passed to his children and grandchildren. Ed is survived by his loving wife, son and his finacee April Page, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at NHRMC for the excellent care and compassion they provided. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday March 24th at Oleander Memorial Gardens, and a memorial service will be held at 4:30PM Saturday March 24th at Windermere Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Windermere Presbyterian Church or charity of one’s choice.
