Elbert Al Norman Hewett

Elbert Norman Hewett ""Al"" Elbert ""Al"" Norman Hewett, 65, of Hampstead, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center. Mr. Hewett was born July 21, 1943, in Whiteville, NC, son of the late Bertha McDowell Hewett and Norman Hewett. A stepson, Richard Gary Brickhouse, and a sister, Alma Hewett Clewis, preceded him in death. He was the devoted and loving husband of 34 years to Mary ""Susie"" Covil Hewett; father of two sons, Travis Norman Hewett Carolyn and Anthony Wayne Hewett Tammy and three daughters, Jennifer McDowell Scott, Angela Campbell Frank, and Susan Goff. Also surviving him is: six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby O'Brien and Jean Phipps; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Friday, January 30, 2009, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel. A funeral service will be 2pm Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, Hampstead, NC. Interment will follow in the Hampstead Latter-Day Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 2222 South 17th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
