Elizabeth Huggins Rhodes

Elizabeth Huggins Rhodes of Wilmington, NC died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at The Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. She was born December 29, 1919 in Wilmington, NC the daughter of the late Thomas Leroy Huggins, Sr. and Dorothea Moore Huggins. She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore "Ted" Rhodes and her son, Joseph Wilson Butler, Jr., four sisters, and five brothers. Mrs. Rhodes worked for the New Hanover County Tax Office and retired from The NC Agricultural Extension Office after more than 25 years of service. She has been an active member of Sunset Park Baptist Church since 1952. Mrs. Rhodes became an honorary member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Xi Master Chapter in 1962 and she received the Order of The Rose for 25 years and The Golden Circle for 50 years of membership. Surviving are her daughter, Betty Jean Lanier and husband Sonny of Wilmington, NC; two granddaughters, Janie B. Davis, Sharon E. Lanier, two grandsons, Joseph W. Butler III and Jeffrey T. Butler; great grandchildren, Skylar Craven, Brooke Buffington, Bridgett Coleman, Joey Butler, Eric Butler, Risa Perkins, Tiffany Butler, Foster Butler; ten great great grandchildren; nieces Joyce Wentz, Ida Moore, Wanda Edens, and nephew Norwood Williams Sr. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel followed by the funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family would like to express their gratitude and love for three special angels, Teresa Robinson, Myria Peterson, and Marcia DeBethizy, for their love, support, and care during her illness.
