

Elizabeth Lamons Lowe of Wilmington, North Carolina and Quogue, New York passed away peacefully on Monday October 15th at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born June 10th, 1923, the daughter of Graham and Elizabeth Lamons in Greenville, Tennessee. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm B. Lowe Jr on Feb 26, 2004 and is survived by her daughter Sarah Stewart Lowe of Wilmington, her son Malcolm Branson Lowe III of Wilmington and her loving cocker spaniel Suzie. Betty or Bede as she was called by friends and family grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and also spent a lot of time in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member and President of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. After graduating from Georgia and while in New York she attended the Toby Colburn School of Design in New York City and the Isabel O'Neil Studio Workshop for Decorative Art, Furniture and Painting. Prior to meeting Malcolm Betty was Director of Marketing and Advertising at Bryan Hosiery. In 1958 She and Mac were married and she activated her career in the fashion business while Mac worked for Lowe Paper Company and later Federal Paper Board After spending time in New York, New Canaan Connecticut they settled in Wilmington, NC in 1960 Soon after settling in Wilmington and following her esthetic interests she established Elizabeth Lowe Antiques and Interiors. Betty was active in several civic and community organizations including the Historic Wilmington Foundation and St John's Museum of Art. She was also an active parishioner of St James Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends and visitors at their home on Sunday October 21st from 3-5 pm Funeral Services will be held on Monday October 22nd at 11am at St James Episcopal Church. Graveside services will be in Quogue, New York on October 24th. The family would like to extend a very warm thank you to all the people who cared for Betty in her last few years and finally at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. Memorials and donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, St. James Episcopal Church or to the charity of one's choice.
