Elizabeth Brailsford Patterson

On February 14, 2023, Elizabeth (Lib) Brailsford Patterson, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in Wilmington NC with family by her side.  She was 92.  Born in Summerton SC to the late Angus and Lilian Brailsford, Lib attended Winthrop College where she was a member of the All-State Basketball Team.

Lib was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Lee Patterson, son James Patterson Jr. and daughter, Jeanette Patterson.  Also a sister, Julia Hodge and brothers, Thomas Brailsford and Preston Brailsford.  She is survived by sons, Edwin Patterson, Don Patterson, Ron Patterson and daughter-in law, Janis Lien.  She was the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. 

While raising her family in Statesville NC, Lib was also the bookkeeper for the family drug store, Westgate Pharmacy.  She was a decades-long member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.  There she served as the Secretary to the Administrative Council and was President of Wesley Adult Fellowship.  She was a member of the Chancel Choir and Senior Chorus.  Lib was also a former member of the Statesville Business and Professional Women’s Club for many years where she served as President. 

Lib loved to cook, knit, crochet and sew even making her own wedding dress.  She also enjoyed dancing, camping, fishing and playing cards with family and friends.  She was always a joy to talk to and had so much compassion for everyone around her.  She will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held at 2:00pm Monday, March 6, 2023, at Ocean Lakes Family Campground Recreation Center, 6001 S Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29575.
