
Elizabeth Holmes Whitehead Taylor, 94, of Winnabow, NC, died at home, on May 22, 2010. Elizabeth was born on March 28, 1916, in Wilmington, NC, the daughter of William Grant and Lita Larkins Whitehead. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, Julien Knox Taylor, Jr., her daughter, Elizabeth Taylor Williams, her son, Julien Knox Taylor, III, her granddaughter, Susan Larkins Wolfe, and her brothers, William A. Whitehead and Allen H. Whitehead. Lizzie, as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, was a devoted, lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and was an Honorary Life Member of Women of the Church. She served on the Board of the Catherine Kennedy Home for 44 years and was President from 1962-1965 and 1980-1981. After First Presbyterian Church acquired the Catherine Kennedy Home, she became an Honorary Member of the Catherine Kennedy Foundation, Inc. Elizabeth was a past President of the Junior League of Wilmington and member of both the Ministering Circle and the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of North Carolina. She attended Converse College, Spartanburg, SC and was a graduate of Smith College, Northampton, MA. Surviving are her daughter, Helen Taylor Wolfe and her husband Thomas, Wilmington, NC; her son, John Faison Taylor, Winnabow, NC; son-in-law, Robert Marshall Williams, Jr., Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Holmes Wolfe, Atlanta, GA, Margaret Wolfe Budd and husband Roger, California, MD, Elizabeth Williams Thompson and husband Ralph, Springfield, VA, Robert Marshall Williams, III, Wilmington, NC, William Arthur Williams and wife Nora, Garner, NC, Julien Knox Taylor, IV, Palm Beach, FL, Durham Christian Taylor, Raleigh, NC, seven great-grandchildren, Susan Elizabeth Budd, Gordon Christopher Budd, Alexander Thomas Budd, David Grant Thompson, Amanda Reed Thompson, Anne Christian Williams, and Robert Marshall Williams, IV; and a nephew, Allen H. Whitehead, Jr., Williamsburg, VA. A Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, NC on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Ernest T. Thompson, III and Rev. Robert D. Cook officiating. A private burial will be held in Oakdale Cemetery.
