

Elizabeth English Avera Taylor died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Betsy was born in Wilmington, NC on April 26, 1939, the daughter of the late Ethel and Charles Nicholas Allen Avera, and wife of 49 years to the late Victor Grainger Taylor, who she lost earlier this year. She attended New Hanover High School, graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School and attended Atlantic Christian now Barton College. Betsy devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Andrew's On-the-Sound where she served several terms on the Vestry. She was a past member of the Junior League of Wilmington. She was an avid tennis player and competitive duplicate bridge player. Betsy loved life and touched many with her warm spirit. Surviving are her children: Elizabeth English Taylor of Wilmington, Alexander Reston Taylor of Wilmington, Victor Grainger Taylor, Jr and wife Lori and son Victor Grainger Taylor III of Cary, NC, and Frances Grainger Taylor Andrews and husband Philip and their children, John Philip, Catherine Reston, James Cody, and Wilson Taylor Andrews. Also surviving are her sister, Ethel Avera Taylor of Wilmington, her brother, Dr. Charles Nicholas Allen Avera of Raleigh, NC and Wrightsville Beach, and her sister, Margaret Avera Morton of Atlanta, GA. The family is grateful to the medical community and Dr. Brian Gilmore for their compassionate care during her illness. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's On-the-Sound at 11 AM, Thursday, May 8, 2008, with the Reverend Richard G. Elliott officiating. Memorials may be made to the St. Andrew's Endowment Fund, 101 Airlie Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403.
