Eloise Hutchinson Wyatt was born on August 8, 1926in Henry County, Virginia to Duke Norris Hutchinson and Sallie Mae Joyce Hutchinson. She grew up on a farm where her father ran a business selling fresh eggs. They also had hogs, cows and a corn field. All of her siblings and their children would come for lunch every Sunday. The children loved running through the fields, making mud castles in the creek, sneaking in the hen house and “playing” with the bulls and hogs. She loved these times that she shared with her close knit family.
Eloise graduated from Bassett High School in Bassett, Va in 1944. Afterwards, she attended Averett College in Danville, Va, where she was recruited by the FBI to work in their fingerprint division during World War II. She left the FBI in 1946 to move back home to be closer to family. She took a job with the new Dupont plant being built in Martinsville, Va. After eight years, she left Dupont to work for the local public service authority which would give her more time with her two young daughters.
In 1985, she quit her job and left everything behind to move to Wilmington, NC because “I’m not going to be that far away from my grandchild”! She loved him so much that she saw him every day that first year, even days that she was not needed as a sitter. When her granddaughter was born, those two children became her whole world. She was such a loving grandmother, mother sister, wife, mother-in-law and friend. She never said anything bad about anyone, except the time she got mad at a telemarketer and told him “to stick it where the sun don’t shine”! She was such a nice person that she later felt guilty for saying that.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Wyatt, her brothers Curtis Hutchinson and Duke Edward Hutchinson and sister Glenwood Hutchinson Callahan. She is survived by her brother Billy Gene Hutchinson (Nadine), and sister Frances Hutchinson Secrest, two daughters; Judith Adkins and Beverly Adkins Clark(Russell), two grandchildren, Christopher Russell Clark and Holly Clark Herndon (Brad); two great grandchildren; Paige Russell Herndon and Alton Brooks Herndon.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am, August 8 (her 97th birthday) at Oleander Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
