

He was born in Wilmington, on January 16, 1921, son of the late Eugene Monroe Allen, Sr. and Lilly Maye Gaylor Allen.
Mr. Allen was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army and was employed with the United States Post Office for 32 years. He was a past deacon and Sunday school teacher where he was a longtime member of Winter Park Baptist Church. Mr. Allen was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed visiting friends and family members at local nursing homes. He loved his hometown of Wilmington and was an avid golfer.
Surviving are 3 children, Glenn Allen of Wilmington, Mike Allen and wife, Jenny of Snellville, GA, and Pam Harrell of Wilmington; a daughter-in-law, Judy Allen of Wilmington; 9 grandchildren, Peyton Heitman, Kesia Venters, Brooks Buskirk, Gena Casey, Jennifer Graham, Josh Allen, Stephanie Rabon, Jodie Miller, and James Harrell; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Julia Cook. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Graham Allen; a son, Graham Allen; and a sister, Carolyn Glenn Loughlin.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with the Rev. Mark Teachey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm Saturday until the service time. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Venters, Tom Heitman, Daniel Graham, Jeremy Miller, Michael Rabon, and Jim Buskirk. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Allen, James Harrell, and Larry Casey.
