Frances O'Quinn Davis

Fran grew up in Loris, South Carolina and graduated from Loris High School. Her passion for Cosmetology led her down a long and illustrious career. She attended Troutman Beauty School in Wilmington, North Carolina and received her State Board Certification. She performed as a cosmetologist in Atlanta, Georgia as the supervisor of the nationally recognized salon, Regency Hyatt House. Her abilities as a hair stylist were excellent and she received an invitation to train at the globally recognized hair stylist training center in London, England by Vidal Sassoon. Her abilities as a stylist led her to win the acclaimed First Place award at the National Hairdressers Association. Shortly after winning the National Hairdressers Competition, Fran was elected President of the Hairdresser Association – National Cosmetology Association. Later she established and owned several hair salons in Wilmington and Carolina Beach, North Carolina. In Wilmington, she opened His and Hers Hair Styles followed by Fantasy Hair Land. She sold Fantasy Hair Land to her daughter Valerie after a short time. Her last hair salon was in Carolina Beach, The Hair Cabana. Later in her career Fran decided to share her lifelong passion of cosmetology with many students at Mister David’s School of Hair Design in Wilmington, North Carolina.  For over fifty years, she was an amazing professional who left a lasting memory with many of her cliental and students, as a true perfectionist she insured her customers looked their best.

In the early fall of 1976, Fran married the love of her life at the Airlie Gardens Chapel Wilmington, North Carolina, George Juarbe Davis, and began a life of love, devotion, and constant companionship. They were inseparable and everywhere they went everyone recognized what a perfect fit they were together, just a perfect match for almost forty six years. From the parties at their house or on the beach in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, to the holiday feasts she prepared for family and friends, to the famous Easter Egg Hunts, to their shagging on the dance floor; everyone knew what a special couple they were. Early in their marriage they would travel and enjoy new experiences together, often with members of the family or some of their close friends. Fran was very devoted to her family and close friends; often reaching out with a helping hand when there was a need. Later in life that love and devotion she showed to so many was returned to her with many invitations to gatherings of family and close friends. She set an example for all, by sharing her love with so many was graciously returned a hundredfold. We will always remember her as a gracious giver sharing her love with so many.

Fran was the matriarch of an extended family and the family she and George brought together. This family has continued to grow and prosper over the years. Fran is survived by her children, Sara, Michael, and Valerie; grandchildren, Justin, Quinn, Megan, Kristen, Ashlyn, and Clayton; and great grandchildren, Sullivan, Zayden, Mason, Rylan, Asher, and Keaton. Fran is also survived by her family in marriage; her step-children, Laura, George, Carmen, and Carla; step-grandchildren, David, Wade, Davis, Travis, Laura, Kristian, Spencer, and Delaney.

Fran is pre-deceased by family members, father, Blease, mother, Oreener, brother, Hal, and granddaughter, Lauren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Andrews Mortuary and Crematorium located at 1617 Market Street Wilmington, North Carolina.  A funeral service will be held at Andrews Mortuary and Crematorium on June 24th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. After the funeral service there will be a graveside memorial service at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 306 Bradley Drive Wilmington, North Carolina at 12:30 PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life at Danny and Sara Henderson’s home at 217 Chimney Lane Wilmington, North Carolina following the graveside memorial service.
