April 17, 1930 – September 25, 2025
Francis Burton Pinkston, known to family and friends as Frank, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born on April 17, 1930, in Salisbury, North Carolina, Frank grew up with a deep sense of duty and service. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country as an airman in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career with the National Security Agency, where his dedication, leadership, and sharp intellect guided him through more than three decades of service. He retired in 1985 as Deputy Director of the NSA, having contributed greatly to the nation’s security during a pivotal era in history.
Frank’s personal life was defined by love and family. He married Margaret Terese Pinkston, with whom he shared a devoted partnership until her passing in 1981. Together they raised four children who were always his greatest pride. Later, Frank found love again with Anne Bakalis Pinkston, his wife and companion until her passing in 2024.
Frank is survived by his four beloved children, nine grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. His life’s work, his steadfast character, and his unwavering devotion to his family will remain an enduring legacy.
Frank will be remembered as a man of integrity, wisdom, and warmth — a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held from 10am until 11am on Monday, October 6, 2025 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC. The Funeral Mass will follow promptly at 11am. Interment will take place afterwards at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
