For 84 years, Chris lived as a man of unwavering integrity, steadfast love, and quiet strength. The man he was at the end of his life was the same man he had always been—as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend: dependable, wise, and deeply devoted to those he loved. Born in St. Thomas VI on September 1, 1941, he passed away on June 18, 2026.
Chris believed in doing every job with excellence. An entrepreneur and builder, he owned several businesses and served as president of both the Haywood County and the High Country Home Builders Association. Following his graduation from Georgia Military Academy, he proudly served six years in the United States Army. He lived by simple principles: work hard, give your best, and act with integrity. As he often said, “I don’t give a damn what you do, just be the best at it.”
Known affectionately as “Boom-Boom” at the Blowing Rock Country Club, Chris was an avid golfer and loyal friend; he loved to travel, treasured lifelong friendships, and found great joy in time spent with family.
Family was the center of Chris’ life. He shared an unbreakable bond with his son, Nevin, and later became a devoted Pop to his grandsons, Charlie, Michael, and Russ. The moments they shared will be cherished forever.
One of the happiest chapters of Chris’ life began when he married Ginger Roney Ebaugh in 1992. Together they built a life rich in adventure, laughter, and devotion. She remained faithfully by his side through every season of life.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Ebaugh Thornton and Frank C. Ebaugh. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ginger; his son, Nevin (Alyson); his grandsons, Charlie, Michael, and Russ; Ginger’s children, Ashley, Jay, and Jaime Gardner; his brother, Craig (Sue) Ebaugh; his sister, Patty Ebaugh Blackburn; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A private family ceremony will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Chris’s memory with a donation to https://www.crossnore.org or by enjoying a round of golf with someone you love.
His steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to count on him.
