Frank died Sept. 26 at the age of 79 after an extended battle with COPD that took much of his mobility but did nothing to dull his charm, intelligence, memory or tremendous sense of humor. In fact, his wit was still evident even as he lay on his literal deathbed. When asked, “How do you feel?” he responded, “With my hands.”
Born in May 1947 in the Bronx, New York, to Armando Anthony and Angela Piccolino, his father’s work as a purchaser for the Army PX took the family to Okinawa, Japan, where Frank and his sister, Maria, graduated from Kubasaki High School.
After several years overseas, the family returned to New York before ultimately settling in Maryland. Frank spent much of his life in the Baltimore area, where he worked as a salesman and cab driver and met the woman he affectionately called “my bride,” Rosina Loverde. The two shared 45 years together.
In addition to Rosina and his sister, Maria Fick, Frank is survived by his children, Donna Sims (Mick), Francine Piccolino (Tim Moody), Julia Jones Patterson (Scott), Anton Devries and Bianca Mesimer (Mark); his grandchildren, Angela Payne (Robert), Frank Norton, Victoria Norton, Ashley McGill, David Kirschner, Natalie Wagner, Alisia Vinson (Mike) and Breeana Ganey; and a passel of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Also mourning this monumental loss are scores of friends spanning the globe, all of whom seem to agree on one thing: Frank was the funniest and friendliest guy in the room.
Our family’s loss is immeasurable, and we will all miss him forever.
