

Franklin Delane Carter, 78, of Wilmington died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born November 13, 1932 in Robeson County, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Retha Carter, and his brother, Bobby Carter. He was survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Billie; son, Michael and wife Mary Beth; son, Mark and wife Wendy; grandchildren, Matthew, Molly, Cole, David, Katie, Savannah, and Fisher; and his sisters, Irene Milligan and husband Layton of Wilmington, and Minnie Stevens of Whiteville, his brother, Maurice Carter of Wilmington. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957. He went on to have a successful sales career in the housing industry, retiring from Boise Cascade in 1983. In 1983 he moved from Raleigh to Wilmington and continued in the industry as a builder and developer in New Hanover County. He enjoyed time on the water, hunting, fishing and playing golf. His greatest joy was his family. He took great pride in spending time with and caring for each one of his seven grandchildren. Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all of us. A funeral service will be held 10 am Monday January 3, 2011 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends form 4pm to 6pm Sunday December 2, 2011 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be mad to Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Dr 28401 or to the charity of ones choice.
