Frederick (Fred) Theodore Maurer

Frederick Theodore "Fred" Maurer, 70, of Leland, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home after an extended illness. Born on April 23, 1942, in Haddon Heights, NJ, he was a son of the late Frederick John and Irene Krug Maurer. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and long-time owner of Port City Signs. After 27 years at Port City Signs, his customers became his friends and his employees became his family. Although Fred was a northerner by birth, he was a southern gentleman by choice. Fred never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved woodworking and was an avid dime and banana sticker collector. Surviving, are his wife, Patricia Maurer; son, David T. Maurer (Tracy); daughter, Kristine Glick (Elliott); step-son, Robert Beacham (Kim); step-daughter, Michelle Anderson (Mitch) all of Wilmington, NC; brother, Glen Maurer (Lydia) of Hastings, FL; sister, Linda Gordon (Ed) of Philadelphia, PA; step-brother, Hap Peterson (Joanne) of Cape May, NJ; step-mother, Jeanne Maurer of Cape May, NJ; five grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner & Seth Maurer, Ashley & Ben Gardner; five step-grandchildren, Valerie, Josh & Victoria Anderson, Chance & Alec Beacham; step-great-grandchild, Masen Lewis Dove; loyal sidekick, Sarah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends, especially, Clarence Kirby. A memorial service will be 3 pm Thursday, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
