He is survived by his loving and beloved wife, Lois; his daughter, Susan Fox and granddaughters, Teresa and Heather Ramsey; his son, Thomas Fox and wife Susan and grandsons, Alex and Gunther Fox. He was preceded in death by a son, James Fox and a brother, Eli Pritchard.
Even though he may not have often demonstrated his love for them, he hoped they all knew how much he loved them.
George always said he was very fortunate and very happy with his life; although now he is probably complaining that it was too short.
Mr. Fox served as a United States Marine from 1940-1945. He always said “5 years 4 months and 2 days, but who’s counting?” George became a Tanker. He always said it was because he was too lazy to walk. He made four D-Day landings with the 4th Marine Division on Roi/Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He remained on the first three until they were secured and his outfit went to its rest camp on Maui. He said that he finally found a way to get off one of those islands early. On Iwo Jima, he was wounded on D-Day plus 5. He managed to stay in the St. Albans Naval Hospital until the war was over.
After George's military service, he attended Pace University in New York, earning a degree in accounting, and spent most of his career as a commodity trader in sugar.
George and his wonderful wife moved to Wilmington from New York many years ago, and he never regretted the move. His wonderful daughter moved here and gave George and Lois two beautiful granddaughters.
His family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC. Military honors will be accorded by an Honor Guard from the United States Marines.
Immediately follow the visitation, friends are invited to join the family at their residence for light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38148-0142.
