

Gerald (Jerry) Dilmous Ferguson, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023. He was born in Atlanta, GA on June 23, 1935 to Dilmous and Juanita Whitaker Ferguson. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorene Camp, and daughters Paula Ferguson Hart and Jill Ferguson Hebert.
He met his wife, Evelyn, in New Albany, IN and married in 1970. He is survived by his wife, son David Ferguson (Cheryl) of Asheville, NC, daughters Terry Johnson (Wayne) and Kimberly Meyer both of Wilmington, NC; son-in-law Kevin Hebert of Walterboro, SC; brother-in-law James Camp of Conyers, GA; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from West Fulton High School in Atlanta, he graduated from Southern Technical School majoring in Electrical Technology then attended Georgia State majoring in Chemistry. He was in the Army Reserves for 13 years. Prior to becoming the plant manager of US Steel Agri-Chemical in Navassa, NC from 1975 to 1985, he held various management positions in the fertilizer industry in Jeffersonville IN, Greensboro NC, Williamston NC, Moultrie GA, Columbus GA, Danville VA, and Baltimore, MD. Jerry finished his professional career in 2002 with Lebanon Chemical in Baltimore, MD. After moving back to Wilmington, he worked with the New Hanover Child Nutrition department part-time until he permanently retired at age 80.
Jerry loved fishing, boating, traveling, gardening, country music, and his family. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the employees of the Child Nutrition department. He loved working there and always wished that he could have continued his journey until his battle with Parkinson's became evident. Jerry’s humor was infectious and he knew how to make anyone smile.
The service to honor and celebrate Jerry's life will be Monday, November 6th at 2 PM at Andrews Mortuary on South College Road, with Rev. Anne Abdy officiating, preceded with a visitation for family and friends at 1 PM. His entombment will be at Oleander Gardens following the service.
