Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Mattie W. McFayden; parents, Arthur Hamilton McFayden and Ruth Eugenia Sanderlin; brothers and sisters: Loyd McFayden, Thurman McFayden, Johnnie McFayden, Letty Pope, and Doris Skierkiewiz. He is survived by sisters: Beulah Arthur and Evelyn Loftin; children: Darlene Williams and husband William, of Hampstead and Dennis McFayden and wife Charlene of Wilmington; grandchildren: Thurman Anderson Jr., Alisa Stewart, and Deanna Steffensen and husband Lee; great-grandchildren: Ashlin Stewart and Brianah Steffensen.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery on Shipyard Blvd. The Rev. Daniel Grey Justice (Danny) will officiate. Both visitation and funeral services will be conducted at Coble Ward-Smith on Oleander Drive in Wilmington,NC.
Gerald was a Veteran of the United States Navy and he proudly services his country in the South Pacific in WWII. He also enjoyed Wood-Working, Fishing, Hunting, and Gardening. Gerald also owned McFayden Antique Shop of Hampstead for many years. Gerald knew many people and made friends where ever he went. One of his most dearest friends was Shirly Cherry of Rocky Point, NC. She has always been an "Angel" in his eyes. He will be dearly missed and thought of often by everyone who has been touched by him.
Gerald's family would like to send a special Thank You to everyone at Davis Health Care Center. They have always shown such great compassion and support for not only Gerald, but for his family as well.
