He no longer has to put up with our nonsense. Glenn Wesley Hodges, our gambling, storytelling, fish catching, golf playing, Panthers obsessing, baseball watching, dog-loving patriarch, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, has been reunited with his parents, Ruth and Carl, and his grand-dog Teddy. On February 12th, Glenn passed away peacefully after a brief illness at his beautiful home in Wilmington, NC, surrounded at the end by his loving family, best friends, and dog Paddy.
Glenn was born on Halloween, 1946, in Charleston, SC, to Carl Hodges and Ruth Bethea Hodges, and welcomed into this world by his older sister, Vicky. They grew up in Wilmington, where Glenn graduated from New Hanover High School and Wilmington College (now UNCW), where he starred on the golf team, eventually taking over Hodges Electric Co., the family business founded by his father in 1957, and carving out his own niche in the Wilmington business community. Glenn went on to have a full, long and charmed life, never passing up an opportunity or being afraid to take a risk. He met the love of his life, Robbie Burnett Hodges, when he was 24, leading to a partnership of over 50 years. Even near the end, he cared not for himself but for his loved ones, reassuring his family that he had lived a great and blessed life, with a beautiful family, and that he had no regrets.
He is survived by his wife Robbie; his children Angela, Wes, and Tate, and Tate’s wife Davita, who provided invaluable care to Glenn in his final days; his grandchildren from Angie, Elyse, Nick, and Lucas; his grandchildren from Wes, Hunter, Avery, Quinn, and Cate; and his grandchildren from Tate and Davita, Liam, Isla, and Beckham; his sister Vicky Lettmann; countless other great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces and nephews; and his lifelong best friend and partner in crime Major General Tommy Dyches and his wife, Pam. He will never be forgotten by those whose lives he touched.
At Glenn’s request, in lieu of a traditional service there will be a Celebration of Life held at Glenn’s and Robbie’s beach house on Figure Eight Island at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16th. All friends are welcome. The address and directions will be provided by the Figure Eight gatehouse. Casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to two of Glenn’s favorite charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) and Adopt an Angel (www.adoptanangel.net).
Until we meet again, GLucky7000…
