

Glenn F. "Doc" Wilson, Sr., 87, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on May 20th, 2014. The funeral service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmington. Reverend Margaret Hockett of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church will officiate Visitation will be held at 6 pm, Thursday, May 22 at Coble Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Greenlawn Cemetery at 1 pm on Friday May 23rd.
Glenn was born to Charles Conley Wilson and Elizabeth Jacobs Wilson in Wilmington on July 26th 1926.. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1947. He was married to Evelyn Bullard Wilson (decreased) on October 16th 1948; they were married for 44 years.
Mr. Wilson worked as a Manager for Longley Supply Company for 40 years. He enjoyed many sports, but especially baseball. In his youth he played for a minor league team at Robert Strange Park.as pitcher. He served as past President of Winter Park Optimist Club and was active in Winter Park Little League baseball for more than 20 years. He coached the Godwin Lumber Team and led the Longley Supply Team to many championships. He had many happy memories of the Little League. Glenn was associated with the Boys Brigade as a youth and served as the last President of the Senior Fraternity of the Boys Brigade Club. Glenn was raised in the Wilmington Methodist Churches . Over the years he attended Fifth Avenue Methodist, Grace Methodist and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He served on many committees and boards over the years at Grace and Wesley Memorial UMC.
Glenn is survived by his son Glenn F. Wilson, Jr, and wife, Trudy of Sebago, ME. His daughter, Lynn W. Knape, and husband, Wes, of Wilmington. His grandson, Randall C. Thomas Jr, and wife ,Jennifer, and two great-grandchildren, Madalyn and Connor Thomas all of Columbus OH. Also, surviving are two brothers, Edward A. Wilson of Wilmington and Harold D. Wilson of Jacksonville, FL and several favorite nieces and nephews, family members and friends. Glenn is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Bullard Wilson, who died in 1992.
The family of Glenn F. Wilson wishes to thank his caregivers: Shirley Hansard, Sharon Simental and Jason Hale who made it possible for Dad to come home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice. The family also expresses thanks to Wesley Memorial Methodist Church and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their remarkable support and care.
