Gloria Johnson Overton

Gloria Johnson Overton, 88, of Wilmington, NC, passed away March 29, 2023. She was born January 6, 1935, in Greenwood, SC to the late George Benjamin Franklin Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Finley Johnson.

Gloria was the youngest of nine children. She married the love of her life, Charles Malcolm Overton, Sr. in 1956. Gloria was a retired Real Estate Agent. She loved her family dearly, along with a good recipe and crossword puzzle. Gloria was affectionately known as “GG” by her family. She was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and adored her church family.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Malcolm Overton, Jr. and Jon Christopher Overton; daughter, Jennifer Overton McGee (Rob); five grandchildren, Acacia Soles, Jason Overton (Bailey), Brooke Jacobs, Austin Overton, and Jake Overton; five great-grandchildren, Harley Jacobs, Drew Soles, Tori Jacobs, Nathan Overton, and Bennett Soles. Gloria is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary; her husband, Charles Malcolm Overton, Sr.; her five brothers, O’Neal Johnson, Selma Johnson, Leroy Johnson, Rudy Johnson, and Melvin Johnson; and her three sisters, Gennie Hill, Mable Cade, and Betty Baker.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
