Harold Hayes Howell

Harold Hayes Howell, age 79, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Christmas Day 2022 at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove. Born June 30, 1943, in Durham, NC, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Thomas Howell. Mr. Howell was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye Howell Scott, and a brother, James “Rocky” Howell.

Mr. Howell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Lynne Allard Howell; a son Bret Howell and wife Keena, granddaughter Brittany Rowell and husband Chris, grandson Bret Howell Jr., and great-grandson Lincoln Rowell, all of Aiken, SC; a brother Charles Howell Jr.  of Boone, NC/Key West, FL.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Howell was a power operator at the DuPont Cape Fear Site. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Before declining in health, Mr. Howell shared a love of fishing the local saltwater with his son and playing golf at the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course.

A visitation will be at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel from 4:00-6:00 pm, Monday, January 2, 2023. A funeral service will be conducted at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Interment will follow immediately after at Oakdale Cemetery. Brother-in-law Jim Newkirk will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
