

Hattie Irene Nichols Young The quiet elegant lady that she was, Hattie gracefully waltzed into heaven on July 29, 2009, where she will be reunited with her husband, Shade Albert Young, parents, Henry and Amanda Gibbs Nichols, 3 brothers and 6 sisters. Born in Pontotoc, MS, March 5, 1919, she was the last of her generation. Hattie, of Wilmington, NC, leaves behind her beloved and adoring only child, Gerald A. ""Jerry"" Young, wife, Gaye Skipper Young, grandsons, Kenny, Steve Leslie, and Jason Heather, granddaughter, Lorie Philip Child, 5 great-granddaughters and 4 great-grandsons. Special ""adopted"" daughters were Nancy Ward Robert and Myrtice Craig, plus special grandson, Robbie. Hattie graduated from Ecru High School and retired from Sears as Divisional Manager. An expert, yet meticulous seamstress, she also loved crocheting, needlepoint and shopping. She also had fun times with special friends, Mary Adobato and Kathy Ammons. Traveling with Jerry and Gaye in their motor coach was her favorite enjoyment. The night Elvis Presley and twin brother Aaron were born, cousin Hattie was present. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Saturday, August 1st at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road. Hattie will make her last trip to Meridian, MS where she will rest in peace at Meridian Memorial Park on Old Highway 80. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 4th at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
