She was an amazing lady and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Hazel was born October 23, 1925 to Carrie Norris Hickman and Willie Rockwell Hickman at Hickman’s Crossroads in North Carolina. She grew up there and met her husband, Willie Clause O’Quinn. She and Willie were married for more than fifty years. They had two children, James Albert “Billy” O’Quinn and Connie Debra “Debbie” O’Quinn. Willie preceded her in death in 1998.
Hazel worked for K-Mart Corporation for 25 years. She rose through the ranks, starting on the floor as a clerk, advancing to supervisor, and, when offered the opportunity to become a bookkeeper, she seized it and excelled, proving herself worthy of the trust and confidence given in her abilities.
Hazel was a longtime member of Pearsall Presbyterian Church and was an active part of that church community. Many of her happiest moments were spent in fellowship with friends she made there.
Hazel is survived by her children, Billy and Debbie, and her grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott O’Quinn (Stephanie), Jennifer O’Quinn Jasinski (Michael), Lorie Nettles Markwell (Alan), Zack Quinn Kelly (Lisa), Jacob William Kelly, Daniel Aaron Kelly (Jacquelin), Abron Quinn Kelly, and eight great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her nephews Charles Kenneth O’Quinn and William Jerry O’Quinn (Gwen) who consider her their second mom because of all the time they spent with her. Also, her baby sister, Barbara “Bobbie” West from Raleigh.
A tribute to her life will be celebrated Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11 o’clock at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Visitation for family and friends will precede the service starting at 10 o’clock.
