Helen was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 21,1927 to the late Alta and James Hammond.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, brother Jim , sister Gladys and grandson Richard.
She is survived by her daughter Fran and son Jimmy ( Lauretta), 1 grandchild, 6 great grandchildren , 1 great great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews.
Helen was in the insurance industry in Atlanta for many years ending her long career in Indiana as the First Woman Deputy Insurance Commissioner in the United States. An accomplishment she held proudly.
She retired to North Carolina in 1985 and later becoming President of the HOA in her community for more than 20 years .
Helen loved landscaping, and watching her plants grow and bloom.
She and her beloved husband enjoyed traveling by car and seeing “our beautiful country” .
