
Helen Ritter Burton, age 92, of the Wrightsboro Community passed away Wednesday July 23, 2008 at Davis Health Care. She was born in Wilmington on September 23, 1915 to the late Joseph T. Ritter and Lula Seitter Ritter. She was the widow of George William Burton who passed away in 1991 and was preceded in death by a grandson, Phil William Burton Mrs. Ritter was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she was appointed the first female Elder of the church. She was a professional bookkeeper for the old Wilmington Saving and Trust Bank and later Wachovia Bank from 1956 until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of ABWA and the Wrightsboro Home Demonstration Club for many years. She is survived by her children, Paul George Burton and wife Jane, Martha Burton Walton and husband Bob, Joseph Jacob Burton and wife Brenda, and Phil William Burton and wife SuAnn. Grandchildren, Ashley Burton Wilson, Robert Oliver Walton, III Trey, Richard Cromwell Walton, Shelby Burton Miller, Lindsay Burton, and Georgianna Lee Burton; great grandchildren, R.C. Walton, George Burton Walton, Spencer Wilson, Emily Wilson, Zack Miller, Kinga Walton, Reese Jefferson Walton, and Jacob Grant Miller, a sister, Plina Ritter Fountain of Wilmington, and a step-sister, Reba Powers of San Diego, CA. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 to 4 PM at Mrs. Burton's residence, 102 Ritter Dr. and on Saturday at the church from 10 until 11 AM. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Keith Warner and Rev. Robert Swart officiating. Interment will follow in Wrightsboro Cemetery. The family would like to extend their special thanks to Tammy Arms, FNP and the staff and personnel of Davis Health Care Center for the kindness and loving care of Mrs. Burton.
