Henry was born Sept. 22, 1935, the only son of the late Henry Howard and Edith Gray Sandlin.
Henry grew up in Dunn, NC and attained an MBA at the University of North Carolina, Henry enjoyed a long, eventful life that included service in the U.S. Air Force, running his family's auto dealership, as well as a long career in auto sales in Hawaii. He was married for 59 years to Linda Aycock Sandlin, who passed away in 2015.
Henry and Linda loved to travel, enjoyed the ocean and decided on a whim to move to the Big Island of Hawaii, where they lived from 1987 to 1997. Their travels even took them behind the Iron Curtain for a cross-country tour of the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War in the 1970s.
Both Henry and Linda were active in church and were dedicated Tar Heel basketball and football fans. They eventually settled in Wilmington, where they made many lasting friendships through church and Henry's job at Wal-Mart.
Henry is survived by three nephews, William Stancil of Summerville, SC, Broughton Aycock of Nags Head, NC and Stephen Roth of Kansas City, Mo., as well as a niece, Caroline Roberts of Oak Hill, Fla.
At Henry's request, no funeral or memorial services will be held, and a private scattering of ashes will take place.
