Herbert Hyman Proctor, Sr., 85, of Surf City, died Sunday, December 04, 2011, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, in Wilmington, NC. Herbert was born January 12, 1926, in Pitt County. He was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served during WWII. After the war, he attended ECTC followed by a 30 year career in the tobacco industry. After retiring to Surf City, he developed an avid interest in collecting antique fishing tackle. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Roberson Proctor; mother, Alice Riggs Proctor; brother, Joseph and sisters, Bernice, Edna, Mary and Riggs. Survivors include his daughter, Marsha Proctor; son, Herbie Proctor and wife Marcia and two grandchildren, Megan and David Proctor. The family will receive visitors from 6-8pm, Monday, December 5, 2011, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Chapel by the Bay in Surf City. Burial will take place at 3pm, Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville, NC.
