Hernan was born on March 12, 1973 in Argentina to Jesus Lois and Mirta Avalo. At a young age he moved to the United States and spent his childhood in Southern California. In his early twenties he traveled to the Hawaiian islands and spent some of the best years of his life living on Maui. He loved the outdoors and having adventures, so whether he was jumping off the rocks at Kāʻanapali for fun or biking down Haleakalā for work, living the carefree island life seemed to be a perfect fit for him.
In June of 2006 he met the love of his life, Katie Goodspeed, and they got married on November 3, 2007, and had two beautiful daughters, Marley and Zoe. They moved to Wilmington, NC which is where they would raise their daughters, and where he began a successful business. He was an involved father who always enjoyed participating in his children's school and sports activities; whether it was assisting with coaching his daughter's soccer team, starting a chess club at his kids elementary school, or regularly attended the seasonal Special Olympics games, he never shied away from the chance to be more involved in his kids lives and thoroughly enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.
He was preceded in death by his father Jesus Lois and niece Paige Henderson as well as all his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Goodspeed; two daughters, Marley Lois and Zoe Lois; his mother, Mirta Avalo; his two sisters, Daniela Lois and Elizabeth Coles (Arthur); sisters in law, Kim Goodspeed (Matt Tidd) and Kristin Britton (Ross); nieces and nephews, Giselle Otamendi, Martin Otamendi, Rebecca Rea, Tatiana Delatorre (Michael), Matthew Henderson, Elijah Goodspeed, Kenji Goodspeed, Tanner Goodspeed, Mirabel Goodspeed, Tenety Britton and Bubba Britton; great nephew, Jack Finney and Henry Otamendi; aunt, Maria Isabel Lois; cousins, Alexis Chajias Lois and Jonathan Chajias Lois; and a special mention to Frank Delatorre (Teresa) who was a dear friend, brother, and father figure to Hernan throughout the years.
A Visitation will be held from 11-12pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC. The Memorial Service will follow at noon.
