Hilda Jane Henry Skipper of Leland, NC passed away peacefully Thursday, April 24th at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC.

Hilda was born on August 2nd, 1932 in Leland, NC. She was the eldest child of the late Thomas Albert Henry and Ruth Jane Sullivan Henry. She was the beloved wife of Albert Elmer Skipper for 50 years who preceded her in death June 21st, 1999.

She is survived by her 6 loving children, Ruby Skipper Williams and husband Stanley of Beulaville, NC, Albert Skipper and wife Linda of Wilmington, NC, Betty Skipper Mintz and husband David of Leland, NC, Johnny Skipper and wife Missy of Delco, NC, Keith Skipper and wife Pam of Wilmington, NC, and Becky Skipper Elwood of Leland, NC. In addition are 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, her special sisters Jo Collins, Kathern Fulford, Katie Varnum and Rose Bryant, also preceded in death by two brothers Buddy Henry and Nance Albert (Cookie) Henry.

Hilda was a devout member of Zion Methodist Church, Leland, NC. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and enjoyed traveling with her husband for many years, working side by side at flea markets throughout their travels, going to the mountains with her sisters, traveling with her children, Christmas gatherings and the many wonderful birthdays and Mother's day dinners.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice facility for all the compassion and comforting care during her final days at their wonderful center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Methodist Church/Leland, NC or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Facility/Wilmington, NC

The family will receive family and friends at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Dr. Wilmington, NC Sunday April 27th from 4 – 6 p.m. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28th at Zion Methodist Church 6864 Zion Church Rd NE Leland, NC 28451 with Pastor Willie Frizzelle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

There are always certain people who touch your life that regardless of the time or circumstance that you never forget. Ms. Hilda was a very special sweet lady and she is one of those who you never forget. Always went out of her way to speak and make you feel important.

Ms. Hilda was a very kind and sweet woman. She always had a smile.
