Jacob Fernandez-Villa

Jacob Fernandez-Villa, 17, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and extraordinary promise. A rising senior at Laney High School, Jacob was a beacon of light whose joyful spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Jacob embraced the coastal life of Wilmington with his whole heart. Whether he was boating with friends, golfing, working out, or catching waves, he found happiness in every adventure. A gifted athlete, Jacob played soccer and basketball, earning admiration not only for his talent but also for his sportsmanship, humility, and respect for others.

Growing up in a family rooted in both Spain and England, Jacob developed a natural curiosity about the world and an exceptional ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. His welcoming nature made everyone feel included, and friendships came easily to him.

Jacob lived life to the fullest. His days were filled with family, friends, sports, music, and new experiences. He loved attending concerts, spending time outdoors, and creating memories with the people he loved most. Through it all, he carried himself with quiet confidence, and a smile that could brighten any room.

More than anything, Jacob's greatest gift was his heart. He had a rare ability to make people feel seen, valued, and important. His warmth brought comfort, his laughter brought joy, and his kindness made others feel safe. He had a way of lifting those around him simply by being himself, and his light will continue to shine in the countless lives he touched.

Jacob is survived by his loving parents, Jen and Alex; his devoted siblings, Bella and Andrew; his grandparents, Gwendoline (widow of John;) Felipe and Serafina; his aunt, Eva; his uncles, Alvaro, father of Zelai, and Rob, father of Sophia and Gia; along with many extended family members, cherished friends, teammates, classmates, and all who loved him.

Though Jacob's life was far too short, it was filled with laughter and love. His family, friends, and community will forever carry his spirit with them—bright, generous, adventurous, and full of life. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him to live with kindness, courage, and gratitude.

A memorial service to celebrate Jacob’s life will be held on August 7 at 2 pm at Scotts Hill Church. Friends and loved ones are invited to join us in honoring his memory.
