

JAMES KENNETH ""KENNY"" ABRAMS please use PHOTO and FLAG with obituary James Kenneth Abrams, 88, of Leland, went to be with his Lord, Saturday, August 23, 2008. He was born July 11, 1920, in Raymondville, MO, son of the late William Wesley Abrams and Mary Wenona Abrams. His son, Terry Wesley Abrams and daughter, Linda Kay Militello preceded him in death. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Marines, having served in the South Pacific. He was wounded on Guam and received a Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Abrams was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Mr. Abrams met his wife, Blondell Smith Abrams in Wilmington and they recently celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary, March 4, 2008. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by daughters, Nancy Hummell and Tena Collmar; a sister, Sylvia Craig and husband Garnel of Grain Valley, MO; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Faydene Corbett, Mickey Turlington, Peggy Lockamy and husband Robert, and Janis Stone; and brothers-in-law, Ray Smith, Jay Smith and wife Geraldine; many nieces and nephews; and special C.N.A.'s, Sylvia Keaton, Hattie Mosley, and Melisha Johnson. Also recognized are special Christian friends who have helped with the care of Mr. Abrams, some over the last fourteen years, Jay Adams, Kevin Brooks, John Goodson, Clyde Holly, Danny Langston, Mike Morley, Joe Norman, Rob Strickland, Eric Vanderhaar, Glenn Wells, and Joe Keach, all members of Northside Baptist Church. These friends will be serving as honorary and active pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Freedom Baptist Church by Rev. Dodd Mays and Rev. Michael Morley, with music by Pastor Randy Speight. Interment with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 2222 South 17th Street, Wilmington, NC, 28401, or Freedom Baptist Church, 802 North College Road, Wilmington, NC, 28405.
